I never expected to be one of those people who pushed a dog around in a stroller, but when Bella reached the venerable age of 12 and started on blood pressure medication for her enlarging heart, the idea seemed a lot more reasonable. During a recent stay in Seattle, I gave two strollers from Jeep the roll-around.

I can’t give the Jeep Wrangler Pet Stroller a complete review because it arrived damaged. One of the plastic pieces in the middle that kept the side struts in place when it was unfolded was broken, making it a little unstable. It was still usable, though, so we tried it out.

Your dog can be placed in the stroller from the front or the rear. Bella wasn’t sure at first about riding instead of walking, but she’s pretty laidback and soon settled down. As far as design, it’s well constructed but feels lightweight. It folds and unfolds easily, but doesn’t fold as flat as the Reluctant Consumer — aka my husband — would like.

That’s important when you’re traveling and need to fit a lot of stuff into a Subaru Outback, but it’s not a knockout blow. He’d also like to see a better engineered fit for the drink-holder, which was difficult to attach when putting the stroller together. The zipper on the cover has a tendency to stick, which I’ve noticed with other Jeep products.

On the plus side, there’s a side pocket and a large underbasket for carrying dog paraphernalia, jackets or small umbrellas. The brake lever is located by the back wheels and is easily operable by foot, but you have to engage it separately for each wheel. It worked well on Seattle’s hilly streets.

Helping to protect your dog from the elements is a cover made of 600-denier waterproof fabric. A mesh front keeps out insects and provides ventilation. The stroller moves smoothly on solid rubber wheels and has an excellent turning radius. It holds dogs weighing up to 30 pounds.

The Jeep Wrangler Pet Stroller retails for $95 to $99, and is available at retail pet supply outlets nationwide. The company's website is All Things Jeep and toll-free telephone number is 877-249-0065.
