Bamboo White Hot Safety Sunblock Shade: This is a vinyl shade that blocks the sun’s glare and reveals the word “Hot” when the car’s interior is too hot for your pet. I liked this shade best for the heat alert button, which turns from red to white when the interior of a car is too hot to leave a dog. It shows just how quickly the temperature can become unsafe – in our case, on a drive of less than five minutes on an 85-degree day.
That said, the shade has some drawbacks. It’s only 14 inches square -- not large enough to cover the entire window -- and you’d really need one for each window for it to have much effect at all. I’d need two or three just to cover the Outback’s rear window and shade the girls.
It attaches with suction cups, which don’t always stick well, a fact we discovered when I asked my husband where it was and he assured me that he’d attached it to a back seat passenger window. We found it on the floor. Don’t count on it to keep your dog cool in a hot car, but do use it to gauge whether it’s really a good idea to leave Poopsie in the car while you run into the drugstore or bank.
